3) Santa Cruz River Farmer’s Market, Thursdays 3:00 – 6:00 P.M., Mercado San Agustin, 100 S. Avenida del Convento, West of I-10 at Congress and Grande, Free

Locally grown fruits and vegetables, plants, flowers, canned goods, honey, baked goods, eggs, gourds, herbal remedies, and more. Accept food stamps.

4) Allen’s Organics Farmer’s Market, Fridays 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sundays 11:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. 741 South Campbell Avenue. Free

The market features fresh produce shopping including items such as certified organic fruits and veggies, local and Arizona Grown produce, cheese, cactus jellies, as well as a food court with various foods such as chili rellenos and tamales. Non-food items include pet items, jewelry and crafts, and bath items.

1) LEGO Children’s Fund, $500 – $5,000, applications accepted on a rolling basis: April 15, July 15, October 15, January 15

Special interest is paid to collaborative efforts and in providing matching funds. Priority consideration given to programs that both meet our goals and are supported in volunteer time and effort.

2) ING Unsung Heroes Award, $2,000 for innovative teaching techniques, applications due April 30th

Grants for  K-12 educators utilizing new teaching methods and techniques that improve learning. Applicants describe projects they have initiated or would like to pursue, judged on its innovative method, creativity, and ability to positively influence students.

3) Arizona Safe Routes to School, $3,250,000 in funds available, workshops to apply are on May 1st – 3rd

Free workshops will be hosted at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community near Scottsdale. Schools will be reimbursed for the cost of a substitute teacher in order for teachers to attend these workshops. In order to register, e-mail BFellows@azdot.gov with your choice of workshop/date, your name, phone number, and e-mail address.

4)  Action for Healthy Kids, $1,000 to $5,000, applications due May 5th, 2012

We’ll provide schools with management expertise and support to develop strong nutrition programs around school breakfast, competitive foods, summer meals, access to healthy food and nutrition education.

5) Arizona Department of Education Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, $50 – $75 per student, applications due May 11th.

This program’s initiative within elementary schools is to expose and provide students to a variety of fruits and vegetables, available all day, every day.

6) ING Run for Something Better, Up to $2,500, applications due May 15th

The school-based running program is designed to be flexible, in physical education class, during recess, before school, after school, or any combination of these, facilitated by a physical education teacher, coach, classroom teacher, or school administrator, 8 weeks long or more, with a culminating event of  any distance, during school, after school, or on a weekend day.

7) Fuel Up to Play 60, up to $4,000, applications due June 1st, October 1st, January 15th.

This grant is to start and maintain improvements in the school’s nutrition and physical activity programs. Schools must be enrolled in Fuel Up to Play 60 in order to apply.

8) WalMart/Sam’s Club Giving Program, $1,000 – $5,000, applications are open February 1st – December 31st

The Walmart Foundation’s various grant programs support initiatives focused on enhancing opportunities in Education and Health & Wellness, to create opportunities so people can live better.

10) Finish Line Youth Foundation Grant, $1,000 – $5,000, applications accepted on a rolling basis

Finish Line Youth Foundation focuses funding on organizations that provide opportunities for youth participation in the following areas: Youth athletic programs – Community-based programs addressing active lifestyle and team building skills; Camps – Established camps with an emphasis on sports and active lifestyle, especially programs serving disadvantaged and special needs kids.
