Schools 2009 – December

Students can celebrate the holidays in healthy ways with the following resources:

Recipes: Taste a healthier version of hot cocoa or make edible snowflakes by cutting whole wheat tortillas into snowflake shapes, then dip in peanut butter dip.

Elementary: This song guide replaces traditional holiday lyrics to songs like Frosty the Snowman with nutrition education messages.

Middle and High: Students can write short essays using the following prompts: What is a favorite food tradition in your family during the holidays? How do you participate in the tradition? Why is it special to you and your family? What are some healthy ways that your family celebrates the holidays?

All grades: Here’s a healthy party food guide for classroom celebrations, as well as non-food celebration ideas.
