Pea Daddy was a hit with the 3rd grade students at Anthem.  Our Instructional Specialist, Connie Lorenz, dressed as Pea Daddy and had the honor of being a special guest at the Anthem assembly last October.  The third grade classes had learned the “Veggie Rap” song that was provided in our Fruit & Veggie tool kit at the beginning of the school year and they performed the song with “Pea Daddy” for the school. The students made visual props to help the audience learn the song as well.  A great time was had by all!

We also piloted “Parent Nutrition Education Nights” at two schools this year and we had several groups of parents attend the series of classes based on AZNN campaign messages – “Fruits & Veggies – More Matters” “Make Half Your Grains Whole”, and “Healthy Proteins”.

One member of our team participated in a collaborative effort with campus staff during the I-Challenge in Pinal County. Shanna Murphree met with students at Hohokam Middle School weekly to discuss the importance of nutrition and physical activity. At the end of the I-Challenge program, the students participated in a “Decorate the Door” contest at Hohokam Middle School. The student team working with our staff won the contest with their “Skinny Santa” submission!
